At Fenwick & West we recently virtualized our Microsoft SharePoint extranets to make better use of hardware, reduce costs, enhance manageability, and improve processes for disaster recovery. At times, this effort seemed akin to rebuilding a jetliner in midflight! In this article I'll discuss the benefits of virtualizing SharePoint, and chronicle the most significant challenges we encountered and overcame in the process of moving our complex extranet environment from physical to virtual servers. It's my hope that the information provided here will help others considering virtualizing SharePoint and realize successful outcomes as well.
2 Million Downloads and Counting: Why Such Loyalty for Microsoft Office? (Read Write Enterprise)
In the past seven weeks, more than 2 million people have downloaded the beta for Microsoft Office 2010. That's a whopping 40,000 downloads per day. Now Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, proclaimed at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2010, that Windows7 has close to 1 million applications supporting the Windows7 OS.

I felt sure he was poking a little fun at his much-publicized proclivity for occasionally repeating the same word in sequence.
