MS SharePoint: Enterprises Get Boost by Adding Social Tools (The San Francisco Chronicle)
Wikis, microblogging, discussion forums, social bookmarking, online groups and communities, and other tools that have come to comprise "social networking software" are marching into enterprises at a rapid clip. Just ask any beleaguered CIO. Workers, particularly younger ones, are demanding that the social tools they use via Facebook and Twitter spill over into the workplace. In addition, the cultural clashes that once prevented senior management from adopting social tools are waning.

Microsoft Readies New SharePoint-based Healthcare Software (ZDNet)
Microsoft is readying another piece of its healthcare software and service platform. The latest component is a SharePoint-based offering called HealthVault Community Connect, which Microsoft is introducing on March 1 at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference . Due out in the third calendar quarter of this year, Community Connect will manage medical-records-processing workflows, providing automation on the patient entry and discharge fronts.

SharePoint Demands Performance and Scalability (Redmond Mag)
SharePoint has become an extremely popular Microsoft product. As is well known, it's a portal platform and provides a great number of needed applications for collaboration among different company groups or even between different companies. It also includes process management, document management and other major applications, all part of SharePoint's array of features.

Windows Azure: Pending Success or Eventual Niche? (Info Q)
Microsoft has had its successes and failures over time, and it has managed to come first with some products even if it came later in the game. Is Microsoft going to be as successful with Windows Azure as it has been with the Windows operating system? Or will it remain a niche player like Windows Mobile?

Microsoft Takes Off Gloves Against Google (CNET)
Microsoft left little doubt Friday that it was one of the companies leading the charge against Google worldwide. In a blog post entitled "Competition Authorities and Search," Microsoft Vice President and Deputy General Counsel Dave Heiner said part of the motivation for Microsoft and Yahoo's search deal was "we are concerned about Google business practices that tend to lock in publishers and advertisers and make it harder for Microsoft to gain search volume." The post comes at the end of a week in which European authorities asked Google to explain its search algorithms after complaints from competitors--one of which is owned by Microsoft.

Google, Microsoft Spar on Antitrust (The Wall Street Journal)
Seeking $335,000 in unpaid advertising bills, Google Inc. filed suit against a small Internet site in Ohio in October. The complaint was so routine it was just two sentences long. Google never expected the response it got. Last month, the small Internet site countered with a 24-page antitrust lawsuit against Google, accusing the search-engine giant of a litany of monopolistic abuses.

How Much of the Security "Challenge" for Cloud Computing is Actually Fear? (Cloud Computing Journal)
Fear is irrational, or at least our reactions to it often are. Such fear is routinely manifesting itself when it comes to the topic of the Cloud Computing security "challenge." The idea of having virtualized systems located, say, along the Columbia River or on some previously foreclosed property in Iceland generates a fear that is not present with similar systems in Building 3.

SharePoint Dialog Auto-Sizing and Master Page Customization (Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog)
SharePoint web dialogs bring an exciting new UI feature: they can auto-size to the content of a hosted page. Auto-sizing works by examining the contents of your page during page load, and setting the size of the dialog accordingly. Unfortunately, this feature can be speed bump on the road to master page customization. This post will describe the master page customization process necessary to keep dialog auto-sizing working with your master pages.

SharePoint Designer’s New Workflow Editor: Keyboard Shortcuts (Microsoft SharePoint Designer Team Blog)
Travis here again from the SharePoint Designer development team.  In my last post, I introduced you to a few of the new features of the workflow editor in SharePoint Designer 2010. This time, I’d like to show some of the new keyboard features in the editor that can make you more productive if you’re the sort of person who would rather avoid using the mouse unless it’s necessary.

8 Things You Need to Know About SharePoint Governance (End User SharePoint)
It’s shouldn’t be a big surprise that Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) is incredibly popular and powerful as a basic content repository.  Microsoft claimed $1 billion in revenue from sales of the software in 2007.  A recent survey by AIIM (State of the Market: Microsoft SharePoint) indicates that SharePoint is indeed rapidly becoming pervasive within the enterprise.  Of those responding to the survey, 83% said they either currently use or likely will be using Microsoft SharePoint.

Constructing the URL to the SharePoint Edit Permissions Page (Weblog Ton Stegeman [MVP])
For the new release of SharePoint Objects I am working on indexing the references to SharePoint groups. By using SharePoint Objects you can easily see which securable objects in SharePoint (site, list, folder, item) have a role assignment for a specific SharePoint group. I want the URL for the reference to point directly to the Edit Permissions page in SharePoint for every type of object:

SharePoint 2010 – Upgrading and More With Todd Klindt & Shane Young (The MOSS Show)
While at the MVP Summit in Seattle, I recorded a couple of videos with the SharePoint MVPs and this is the first of those. In this show, Shane & Todd, the famous SharePoint admin duo, join us for a relaxed chat over breakfast to talk about upgrading to SharePoint 2010 as well as some of its other cool new admin features.

Guest Blog by Michael Womack - Adventures in Bamboo PM Central: “It’s All About Dashboard Usability…" (The Bamboo Team Blog)
Moving on with my testing, I have been resolving some page layout issues with the "top level page" that displays the dashboard for our portfolio of projects.  Initially, when the top level page was produced, we placed three summary charts side-by-side, which resulted in a very wide page that required horizontal scrolling to see everything.  That's a 'no-no' in the Web design world (not to mention it is annoying for users, and an indication of a Web novice at work).
