SharePoint 2010: Screenshots (ZDNet)
There are quite a few prerequisites for a SharePoint 2010 install. These include the Windows Identity Foundation (codenamed 'Geneva'), a SQL Server database and the Microsoft Sync Framework.

SharePoint Gets the Message (Image & Data Manager)
Microsoft’s collaboration platform – SharePoint – offers a number of ways to deliver better workflow with e-mail, explains Ivan Wilson. Ivan Wilson is a founder and principal of Sydney consultancy business SharePoint Gurus. Let’s start at the beginning. You decide to grant some staff members access to a SharePoint site. If your environment has been appropriately set up, you have the option of having SharePoint send them an e-mail informing them that they can now have permissions to that particular location.

Internet Explorer 9: An Early Look (PC Magazine)
Speed and standards. Those two words sum up the goals of Microsoft's just-released Platform Preview of its upcoming Internet Explorer 9 browser. I have to stress that there's a good reason for calling it a "platform preview" rather than a "beta"—the code you can download from ie.microsoft.com/testdrive is not a full browser program by a long shot—there's no Back button, let alone bookmark manager, history feature, toolbars, or any of the other features we've come to expect in modern Web browsers. So this hands on will be shorter than most, simply because there's not much in the way of "user interface" or other goodies to talk about. But there's still plenty to look at in terms of performance and standards support. And, from what we can see so far, it looks like Microsoft is on the right track.

IE9 Proves Microsoft is Back in the Browser Battle, says Analyst (Computerworld)
Microsoft is back in the browser race, an analyst said today after the company unveiled a rough developer's preview of its next browser, IE9. "They want to be more than a follower or just on features parity," said Forrester analyst Sheri McLeish as she talked about what she saw as a recommitment to Internet Explorer (IE). "And they've created a whole new team for IE. Microsoft is clearly taking the browser seriously again."

Microsoft: 64-Bit Office 2010 Not Ready (Redmond Developer News)
Are you thinking about deploying the 64-bit version of Office 2010? If so, Microsoft wants you to think again. Microsoft's newest productivity suite, slated for public release as early as May 12, will be available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions -- a first for the Office product line. The advantage of tapping into 64-bit metal includes the ability to handle files that require greater memory support, as well as to run more programs concurrently.

Microsoft "Photocopies" Missing iPhone Cut/Copy/Paste Feature (ZDNet)
Following in the footsteps of the iPhone, it seems that Windows Phone 7 OS won’t be support Cut/Copy/Paste. Engadget’s Chris Ziegler has confirmed this with Microsoft: We just super-double-ultra-plus-confirmed this with Microsoft — Windows Phone 7 Series will not have copy and paste functionality. There is a data-detection service built into the text-handling API that will recognize phone numbers and addresses, but Microsoft says most users, including Office users, don’t really need clipboard functionality. We… respectfully disagree? Sure, let’s leave it at that.

Windows Phone 7 Developers get Toolkit, App Store Closed Like iTunes (Mobile Magazine)
Why build applications when you’ve built the platform for the application? Developers will get 70 percent of each application sale and Microsoft 30 percent according to Microsoft’s announcement Monday, including a Windows Phone 7 application store and user interface.

EDiscovery in SharePoint Server 2010 (Microsoft Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Team Blog)
Hi everyone, I am Quentin Christensen and I work on document and records management functionality for SharePoint. Electronic discovery (commonly referred to as eDiscovery) is an area we are supporting with new set of capabilities in SharePoint Server 2010. In case you are not familiar with eDiscovery, it is the process of finding, preserving, analyzing and producing content in electronic formats as required by litigation or investigations. eDiscovery is an important concern for all of our customers and given that SharePoint has grown to be an integral part of collaboration, document, and records management for many organizations, we recognize the need to support the eDiscovery process for SharePoint content.

Office 2010 Assessment & Planning (Microsoft Office 2010 Engineering)
Today, over on the Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP) Toolkit Team Blog we announced the availability of the Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP) Toolkit 5.0 Beta. The Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP) Toolkit is an assessment and planning tool targeted at IT Professionals to help them begin the deployment process. The tool inventories your current environment and assesses the readiness of those computers for migration to the new technology, in this case Office 2010. MAP is an agentless tool, this means it can discover the computers in your network without installing any components on the target computers. MAP uses technologies already available in your IT environment to perform inventory and assessments. These technologies include Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), the Remote Registry Service, Active Directory Domain Services, and the Computer Browser service.

Building The Right SharePoint Team For Your Organization (The SharePoint Hillbilly)
I see the question posted fairly often asking what kind SharePoint team an organization should have. How many people do I need? What roles do I need to fill? What is best for my organization? Well, just like every other answer in SharePoint, the correct answer is “it depends”. Do you ever get sick of hearing that??? I know I do…

Where Does SharePoint Still Fall Short? (Mauro Cardarelli)
I was interviewed by a collection of SharePoint enthusiasts last week and was asked a number of very interesting questions about the current and next releases of SharePoint.  The one I found most intriguing was “With all the great features in SharePoint 2010, what do you think is the one thing that still falls short?”  I had to think quickly on my feet to not stumble over some lame response and actually liked what I said after I said it (always good!).  Here is my answer…

The Argument for Social Media in SharePoint (End User SharePoint)
Many companies have chosen not to activate the social media features in SharePoint, and will continue to be a hard sell… unless strong arguments are made for its use. Here’s the first salvo for the argument: The numbers presented in this five minute video by JESS3 are staggering. What it comes down to is this: If you aren’t going to allow your employees to use social media for sharing information, you will be losing an entire generation of employee knowledge whose main form of communication is through social media.
