SharePoint 2010: A First Look (ZDNet)
SharePoint is Microsoft's secret billion-dollar business. Initially designed to simplify building and managing collaboration web sites, it has become middleware in its own right, connecting the Office productivity tools to the wider world. It has also become a content management system, a wiki, a — well, if it hasn't been produced yet, someone in the growing ecosystem of SharePoint application developers is probably working on it.

The Many Benefits of FoIP and Microsoft SharePoint (TMCnet)
With a host of new technologies entering the market place each day, it’s easy to forgot that some very useful solutions from the past are still relevant today. Fax over IP or FoIP is one good example. Not only is the technology still useful in this increasingly all-IP World, but it can help enterprises save money and be more efficient.

SharePoint 2010 Could Drive Forward SaaS (Outsourcery)
New research suggests the popularity of Microsoft SharePoint could rise with the release of the 2010 version of the product, it has been reported. A survey of small and medium sized businesses by Forrester has shown that 24 per cent of respondents from Europe and North America were keen on using software as a service (SaaS), according to CIO.

Ballmer Says Microsoft Is Betting Its Business on the Cloud (Visual Studio Magazine)
Microsoft is reshaping its business around cloud computing. In his strongest public statement to date, CEO Steve Ballmer on Thursday said that Microsoft is "all in" when it comes to the cloud. The cloud is changing the way people think about server hardware and software, Ballmer told an audience at the University of Washington in a speech that was Webcast. Seventy percent of Microsoft's 40,000 software builders are either working on something associated with the cloud or working on projects designed to support the company's cloud computing initiatives. Within a year, that figure will be 90 percent.

The Cloud Slide Steve Ballmer Should Have Shown (ZDNet)
There have been lots of blogs, tweets and news stories covering Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s talk at the University of Washington on March 4 about Microsoft’s commitment to cloud computing. I didn’t intend to write about Ballmer’s hour-plus presentation because there was no news. But the more I thought about his talk, the more I felt it merited comment — at least in terms of the seeming intent behind his words.

Microsoft Windows, Office Security Fixes Prepped for Patch Tuesday (eWeek)
Microsoft is planning to release two security updates next week for Patch Tuesday to address eight vulnerabilities. The company also reminded users it is terminating support in the coming months for certain versions of Windows.

Basic, Beginner Level Content for SharePoint Users (End User SharePoint)
I received a question from Keith this afternoon and it kind of threw me. Here’s the question and I’ll follow with my response: “I’ve added your RSS newsfeed to our intra-company website. We are fairly new to SharePoint (we have MOSS 2007), and I’m trying to use every possible way to teach and facilitate basic skills both for publishing to a portal, and for departments and teams to maintain their own collaboration site (we haven’t opened up “My Site” portals yet). Do you have, or can you recommend, newsfeeds that focus on more basic skills than what you offer? For example: setting up version control, setting alerts, uploading documents, how to move docs from one doc lib to another, granting permissions, etc. Thanks!!”

Around Bamboo Nation
Why the Need for Business Requirements Anyway? (The Bamboo Team Blog)
It's simple, business requirements gathering is an essential part of successful project management and application development. Organizations as a whole have started to recognize this, and have recently started to push the importance of requirements gathering. But here at Bamboo, we feel that there really hasn't been enough done to explain the actual need for a requirements gathering process. It's also our belief that when project / development teams don't follow a successful business requirements gathering process they oftentimes end up playing the "blame game".  Come on, as a developer or project manager, you know this game. It's the game where technical and development teams actually put the blame on their customers or clients, rather than on themselves, for not being able to reach deliverable deadlines or, even worse, delivering an application that falls short of expectations.

Guest Blog by Michael Womack - Adventures in Bamboo PM Central: "Charting and Tasking ..." (The Bamboo Team Blog)
Most of us have heard the phrase, "a picture is worth a thousand words."  That's how I would best describe the Summary Charts displayed under the All Projects tab on the top level page (a.k.a. the Project Portfolio Dashboard) in PM Central.  My concern with Dashboard information like this is, and has always been: what information and/or message is being communicated to our users?  If you have set up one or more projects in PM Central, you may have already seen the colorful charts that display on the PM Central Dashboard.
