Microsoft's New Tools: Harmony or Cacophony? (Visual Studio Magazine)
In this blog and in my column, I've written a lot lately about new technologies from Microsoft that seek to make software development easier. Technologies like ASP.NET Web Pages, Razor and WebMatrix, Access Web Databases and Visual Studio LightSwitch. Each of these technologies, I believe, is bringing much needed accessibility to programming on the Microsoft platform.

Free Windows Azure Security Overview Whitepaper Released (Softpedia)
A new whitepaper made available free of charge by Microsoft is designed to offer developers and technical decision makers insight into the security of the company’s Cloud platform. The Windows Azure Security Overview whitepaper (that can be accessed via this link) will certainly prove useful to customers looking to embrace Windows Azure.

Hands On: Windows Phone 7 Looks Sharp (Techgoondu)
When some Microsoft folks recently asked me how users and techies felt about its upcoming Windows Phone 7 OS, I told them “you’re lucky to still be in the news”. Until the past few weeks, when favourable first-looks of Microsoft’s totally rebuilt smartphone OS came online, the only OSes that anyone was talking about were Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. For an example of how fast a dominant OS can fall in interest level, look at Nokia’s Symbian OS that now powers most of its phones, as it transitions to the more advanced MeeGo. Who thinks anything great of Symbian now?

Microsoft is the Big Winner in Oracle's Suit Against Google (ComputerWorld)
Oracle's suit against Google has one clear winner: Microsoft. With Google's Android tied up in litigation, and Oracle becoming the latest villain in the open source community, Microsoft has a chance to make inroads in the mobile market and elsewhere. Oracle is suing Google, claiming that Android infringes on Oracle copyrights and patents that are related to Java. Oracle spokeswoman Karen Tillman said in a statement: "In developing Android, Google knowingly, directly and repeatedly infringed Oracle's Java-related intellectual property. This lawsuit seeks appropriate remedies for their infringement."

Internet Explorer: The Silent Killer (Stuff)
I'm always a bit surprised when someone tells me that they use Internet Explorer - and I often respond by asking them whether it is by choice. Apart from those who have a gun held to their head, I'm not sure I get why people still use IE, in any of its forms. Recent estimates show that IE is still used by over half of all Internet users. Firefox comes in second with about 31 per cent, and Chrome is next with about 8 per cent.

iPadversaries! 32 Tablets, Slates, Pads, and More (Technologizer)
Why are iPads selling as fast as Apple’s Chinese subcontractors can crank them out? In part, it’s because the iPad has a suddenly-hot product category pretty much to itself. Before scuttlebutt that Apple was working on a tablet started to heat up, no major PC manufacturer seemed to think that consumers wanted a general-purpose, touchscreen-only computing device. Now almost all the big names–and lots of little ones–are furiously playing catch up.

BBC Worried HTML5 "Sailing Off Course" (PC Pro)
The BBC is worried that HTML5 may be "sailing off course", as different companies push the standard toward proprietary implementations rather than keep it open. HTML5 is the next generation of web development standard, which many web companies hope can rival Adobe's Flash by delivering video and other content without the need of a third-party plugin.

Change Tag Spelling and Capitalization in SharePoint 2010 (Ask SharePoint)
The ability to tag EVERYTHING in SharePoint 2010 is one of my favorite features. But, if you’re like me, you sometimes create a personal or enterprise tag hastily. And you know what they say about haste … you end up with typographical errors or inconsistent capitalization. And, if you’re like me, it REALLY bugs you to see all of those inconsistencies in your terms.

Fully Virtualised Environments in HyperV. Theory Meets Reality Head On! (Chris and Daves SharePoint and Tech Blog)
You may be aware of a constant debate that goes on between myself, Dave and a few others in education about running virtual environments and whether they should/could be 100% virtual or if you would need some physical domain controllers put into the mix. If you’re not familiar with the debate have a quick read of this http://sharepointineducation.com/?p=2056 So as you see, I’ve always maintained that you can have a completely virtual environment and in theory it’s all fine.

A SharePoint Leader or a Lone Nut Case, You Decide (End User SharePoint)
As I continue to prepare for my sessions at Best Practices Conference in Washington, DC next week, I’m on the lookout for examples of how, and why, communities form. One of my talks, Best Practices for Building a Community in SharePoint, will dissect how EndUserSharePoint.com has become so large and how people can leverage what I’ve done to start their own communities, whether public or in-house.

Mindsharp SharePoint 2010 Power End User (Day 5): The Wrap-Up (SharePoint 2010)
Kay McClure, our Mindsharp instructor for the week, started the day by finishing up the rest of the Site Collection Administration settings, which we started looking at yesterday. This was our "extra credit" section, normally an Administrator-level class topic. A note to those readers who deal with compliance and regulatory issues: SharePoint 2010 has a lot to help you out, even document Hold features to keep the lawyers happy.
