ARM make chips for everything and everybody, odds are there’s an ARM chip in your mobile phone and at least one or two more around your house.  This British success story is one of the unsung heroes of the modern technological age with the Reduced Instruction Set chip pioneered for, and first seen in the Acorn Archimedes educational computer.

Google Introduces Google Apps for Government Suite (InfoWorld)
Honing in on the lucrative government market for business applications, Google introduced on Monday Google Apps for Government, featuring its suite of cloud-based business applications equipped with extra security precautions. The suite, with such applications as Gmail email and Google Calendar, offers U.S. government FISMA (Federal Information Security Management Act) moderate-level certification. Also, government user data is to be maintained on servers segregated from Google's commercial customers. Google officials emphasized that government agencies are acutely concerned with security and that Google Apps is the first cloud platform certified for use by the federal government.

Google Struggling with Los Angeles E-Mail Deal (Redmond Channel Partner Online)
Sometimes, revolutionaries don't make the best rulers. Such is the case with Google right now in the company's deal to provide cloud-based e-mail for the city of Los Angeles. Last year, Google won a landmark contract for cloud computing and against Microsoft by sealing a deal to replace LA's old Groupwise e-mail system with a cloud-based system. It did so, in part, by looking young, hip and inexpensive in front of the LA city council, while Microsoft sent suits and old-school messages into the City of Angels.

Who's Actually Spending on Cloud Computing? (Search Cloud Computing)
While cloud computing continues to gather steam, thanks to the established, money-making efforts of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Rackspace, much attention has turned to the lucrative enterprise IT market as the next battleground for software vendors. Companies are focusing on building and maintaining private clouds: internal IT environments that operate and deliver services like Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). But is that where the money is?

Study: 7 in 10 Say Better Web Search Needed on Government Sites (Oh My Gov!)
While the headlines about a recent Harris Interactive study focused on the fact that nearly 60% of Americans didn't believe that government was serious about President Obama's open government mandate, we at OhMyGov were more intrigued by a few of the study's other findings. Chief among them is that despite still relying heavily on official gov websites for information, citizens are still struggling to find what they need.

Browser Blowout 2010 (PC World)
Of all the software on your PC, the Web browser may be the most important tool you use each day--but you may not give it much thought. The difference between a merely good browser and a great one, however, can be vast. The best browsers are those that stay out of your way: When you're in the right browser, you feel as though you're alone with your favorite site. The browser loads pages quickly, without crashing, and it can deftly handle any Web page you visit without prompting you to do anything extra.

Microsoft Project 2010 and SharePoint Foundation 2010 (Arpan Shah Microsoft Project and SharePoint Blog)
Microsoft Project Professional (Pro) 2010 has a lot of rich features that make it a great upgrade from previous versions. If you’re a Project 2007 or 2003 user or someone who has never used Project but uses SharePoint, Project 2010 has some great gems that I recommend trying it out. I wanted to share my own personal experience and highlight some of my favorite features:

SharePoint Patterns & Practices Guidance Now Available for 2010 (zevenseas)
It doesn’t matter if you are new to SharePoint development or a guru, you should check out the SharePoint Patterns & Practices Guidance that is available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff770300.aspx. Why should you check it out? Well, because when developing your awesomely SharePoint project, it’s always good to know how others solved all those common issues like logging exceptions, storing configurations, create data layers, etc so you don’t have to worry about that and just implement the business logic that your project needs.

SharePoint: It’s Not Just a Destination, It’s a Journey (End User SharePoint)
I’ve been sharing examples in this series about the possibilities of process-enabling SharePoint to drive business improvement in different vertical industries. This example is a personal confession. I recently participated in the Microsoft 2010 DC Launch event – actually held in Arlington, Virginia – and really enjoyed meeting some great SharePoint enthusiasts there.  If you were at DC or one of the other launch events I’d be interested in hearing your experiences.  This story is not about the event itself though; it’s about what happened afterwards.  Yes, after… when I got hopelessly helplessly lost on my way home to Maryland.  This story is about my journey and what I learned about SharePoint and business process management along the way.

What is a VLE? SharePoint in Education E-learning Series Post 1 of 15 (SharePoint in Education)
So to start the series let's ask the eternal question- what is a VLE? A quick trawl on the Internet will show that people often use the term Learning Platform and VLE as if they are the same thing. Hopefully this series will clear that up and I will share both some of my thoughts and the excellent resources that are available on this topic. To start with take a look at this video on ‘What is a VLE’ which is a useful and quick way of summing things up.

How to Provision SharePoint 2010 Managed Metadata Columns (Wictor Wilén)
This post will show you how to provision Site Columns that uses Managed Metadata in SharePoint 2010. Managed Metadata is one of the new and exciting features of SharePoint Server 2010. It allows you to centrally manage metadata terms and keywords. Creating Managed Metadata columns using the SharePoint web interface is a simple task but the problem is that it does not allow you to move your Site Columns from one farm to another that easily. The reason is that these Site Columns definitions contains references to the unique IDs of the terms in the current Managed Metadata Service Application (MMS).

PM Central Installation Made Simple (The Bamboo Team Blog)
Hello again, Bamboo Nation.  I hope this post finds you well.  In my last couple of posts, I wrote one about Bamboo Essentials, and a tongue-in-cheek post which also focused on Bamboo Essentials but told the tale of Frank, an Imperial Stormtrooper, and his SharePoint expertise.  That little flight of fancy was fun to write, but please be advised that this particular post is much more serious . This post is about the Installation and Deployment of Project Management Central (PM Central), and how to make the installation process 100% worry- and trouble-free.  This can be done just by remembering these 4 words: let us do it.  That's right, we would be more than happy to help you install and/or train you how to use PM Central in your own environment!  Don't get me wrong, we also offer a wealth of comprehensive online documentation that will allow you to successfully deploy PM Central on your own without a hitch, but if you're anything like me you learn more quickly and more efficiently when the material you are learning is visual and, more importantly, interactive.

Microsoft Advisory Services is an hourly fee-based, consultative support option that provides proactive support beyond your break-fix product maintenance needs. This is a remote, phone-based support option that includes working with the same technician for assistance with issues like product migration, code review, or new program development. This service is typically used for shorter engagements, and is designed for developers and IT professionals who do not require the traditional onsite consulting or sustained account management services that are available from other Microsoft support options. This article also provides some self-help resources for this scenario.
