4 Key Steps in Developing Requirements for SharePoint Projects (CMS Wire)
As discussed in my previous post (How to Define Measurable and Traceable Requirements for SharePoint Projects), focusing on the business requirements first, user requirements second and then system/technical requirements is necessary to effectively define measurable and traceable requirements for SharePoint projects. In this post, I’ll show you and explain you the 4 key steps in developing requirements for SharePoint projects.

Windows Phone 7: Enterprise Adoption Not a Sure Thing (CIO)
We all know by now that Microsoft's mobile life hangs in the balance with Windows Phone 7. Sure, Redmond will carry on if WP7 is a bust, but the software giant will be shut out of the smartphone game, one of the most important and rapidly growing tech markets. Microsoft is not taking any of this lightly, lining up the hardware partners such as HTC, Samsung and LG and pouring close to $500 million into the marketing of its new mobile OS.

Chrome August's Big Winner as Internet Explorer Resumes Slide (Ars Technica)
As browser competition continues to heat up, 2010 looks like the year when the market was repeatedly disrupted. Internet Explorer has not managed to gain share for a third month in a row. Firefox is leveling out while Chrome and Safari continue to grow. Opera? It's hanging on to relevance. Between July and August, Internet Explorer dropped 0.34 percent, a drop smaller than June's or July's gain. Firefox, meanwhile, went up 0.02 percent, Chrome gained 0.36 percent, Safari was up 0.07, and Opera dipped 0.08 percent.

Microsoft Says Virtualization Only a Pit Stop in the Cloud Race (Softpedia)
Microsoft is downplaying the relevance that virtualization technology has for the ongoing transition to IT-as-a-service, and notes that the Cloud is at the core of the next stage in the evolution of computing and not virtual environments. The Redmond company is present at the VMworld 2010 U.S. conference in San Francisco, where ironically, it is telling customers that virtualization is no longer the destination, and that businesses wishing to ensure boost in efficiency and cost savings for future operations need to embrace the Cloud.

What Is Microsoft's Next Billion-Dollar Business? (Redmond Mag)
Whether you're in the camp that believes that Microsoft is too dependent on its cash cows or the one that thinks that Microsoft is spreading itself too thin, it's worth considering which product will be the next billion-dollar baby in Redmond. Microsoft officials say there are already a handful of businesses that have earned the company in excess of $1 billion annually -- beyond the always dependable Windows and Office franchises. In the current billion-dollar club (in no particular order) are: Xbox, SQL Server; System Center; Unified Communications; SharePoint; Developer Tools; Dynamics (ERP & CRM); and Online display and search advertising.

Microsoft Launches AdCenter for Chinese Businesses (Networkworld)
Microsoft expanded adCenter to China on Tuesday, allowing Chinese businesses to use the advertising platform to market themselves overseas.

FCC Appears to Delay Net Neutrality Rules (CNET)
In a blow to Net neutrality advocates, who were hoping for sweeping new rules as early as this month, federal regulators suggested Wednesday that they're delaying any action in the near future. The Federal Communications Commission said it will be conducting a "further inquiry" into the details of broadband regulation, including whether wireless networks should be exempted from strict Net neutrality rules, a concept that Google and Verizon recently endorsed. (Here's some background from last year on wireless regulation.)

Creating a Roadmap to SharePoint Success (SharePoint Community)
Planning is the key to success in any endeavor. When it comes to the complexity of placing SharePoint in the context of a successful strategy for managing content; planning is absolutely crucial. Luck won’t help you. When considering a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 solution, there are six major knowledge areas to explore. These SharePoint solution components should be considered when defining the SharePoint Roadmap. The feature areas are as follows:

Build a Better Business with SharePoint 2010 (HostReview)
Microsoft released SharePoint 2010 in May. The software provides better integration with products such as Microsoft Office and supplies flexible deployment and centralized administration, giving you the efficient and secure working environment you need.

Effective SharePoint 2010 Upgrade Q&A (SharePoint Joel's SharePoint Land)
Question and Answer Log: I like to capture the questions from a good webcast.  Got a bunch of good ones today… If you missed the presentation you can get a recording and the slides here.

The Office Web Applications Cache (Bill Baer)
The Office Web Applications cache is used by Word and PowerPoint Web Applications to create a version of a document requested for viewing through the browser improving performance and reducing resource consumption on server machines by making cached versions of a document or presentation available in cases where there are multiple requests for the same document.  An important step in information architecture planning should include aligning the appropriate resources for the Office Web Applications cache through understand the frequency of browser requests and dynamics of the data requested.

Enabling RSS Feeds in SharePoint 2010 (red1'space)
Complex but basic – I know – recently enabling the RSS feeds in SharePoint 2010 took me quite a while. As opposed to in MOSS 2007 the RSS feeds in SharePoint 2010 do not seem to be automatically enabled !?!?!?! Anyway the following procedure will get them up and running in your environment:

BPC: Dux Raymond Sy on 'SharePoint as a Gov 2.0 Platform' (The Bamboo Team Blog)
On Thursday morning at the BPC, Dux Raymond Sy presented a session on a relatively new topic both for him and for many of us in "SharePoint World": Gov 2.0 and how SharePoint is being leveraged as the platform to provide Gov 2.0 solutions to empower citizens, and to provide project transparency and collaboration between agencies and citizens.  This topic is of special interest to me, as I focus on the Federal Sector Sales at Bamboo Solutions and was looking forward to learning more about how the SharePoint platform is becoming a part of the Gov 2.0 landscape.
