Extending SharePoint 2010's Enterprise 2.0 Capabilities (CMS Wire)
In my last article “Evaluating SharePoint 2010 as an Enterprise 2.0 platform” I did a quick and dirty evaluation of SharePoint 2010 against Prof. McAfee’s SLATE framework. The average score for SP2010 was 7 out of 10 which I characterized as “pretty good”. But the article noted some obvious gaps in the lower scores in some areas. I was contacted by NewsGator to discuss how their Social Sites product helps fill those gaps in the SharePoint 2010 “out of the box” Enterprise 2.0 experience.

SharePoint Q&A: Microsoft's Arpan Shah (Redmond Developer News)
Microsoft on May 12 released Office 2010 and SharePoint Server 2010. You can read the Visual Studio Magazine cover feature here . While the Office launch is certainly notable, the impact of SharePoint 2010 on .NET developers is potentially huge. The combination of Visual Studio 2010 (launched in April) and SharePoint 2010 has transformed SharePoint application development from an often-frustrating challenge into a first-class development experience.
What is SharePoint 2010? Vision and Reality (CMS Wire)
Most of our readers have a pretty clear idea of what SharePoint is. However, many people misperceive its core functions. And Microsoft's product websites — with their broad ambitions — aren't always clear enough for new-comers. So for the confused amongst us, here's a concise response to the simple question: What is SharePoint?
Microsoft Unveils Windows Live Essentials Wave 4 (Ars Technica)

Microsoft’s Susie Adams: Cloud Will be Next Big “Disruptive” Technology (Executive Biz)
Cloud adoption by government customers isn’t an all-or-nothing proposition, says Susie Adams, chief technology officer for Microsoft Federal’s Civilian business. “We encourage agencies to take baby steps and really do a cost benefit analysis,” she says, adding, “In some instances, it may not be a wise business decision to move a particular workload to the cloud.” Those reasons may include an already sizable investment in server and data center infrastructure, for which a move to the cloud may not generate significant cost savings.
Reaching for the Cloud (Redmond Channel Partner)
When Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer made his "we're all in" the cloud proclamation back in March, he wasn't just aiming at the largest of enterprises. Microsoft wants its small and midsize customers to start shifting their IT functions to the cloud as well. To reach small to midsize businesses (SMBs), Microsoft is embarking on an effort to enable its channel partners -- those who typically sell traditional software such as Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint and SQL Server bundled with servers, storage and networking infrastructure -- to offer those and other solutions as cloud-based hosted services.

Office Web Apps for Microsoft SharePoint Products 2010 (To the SharePoint)
As part of your SharePoint 2010 rollout, have you been asked to coordinate with or deploy Office as well? Office Web Apps is a suite of online companions to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote that enable people to access and do light editing or sharing of Office documents from virtually anywhere. Yes, all of those Office documents in your SharePoint environment can now be viewed and edited from almost any browser, anywhere. Understanding Rows In SharePoint 2010 (ARB Security Solutions)
Understanding columns and rows in SharePoint 2010 is important when considering the holistic product. As you add columns to a list in SharePoint 2010 they get mapped to columns in the SQL Server database table. The rows in the database table supports a fixed number of column types. With a single database table row you can support eight date and time columns and then twelve number columns. When you have more than eight date and time columns then you need to use two database table rows.
The SharePoint User Group – Why You Should Attend (End User SharePoint)
Before I started working for myself the thought of doing out of hours work, attending meetings or even a conference was something that would make me gasp – “what?! continue working after the hours of 5pm, I think not”. Now I do work for myself and my attitude has taken a complete turnaround and as a byproduct has made me a better person and I will tell you why I think that.
