SQL Azure Is PDC Ready in CTP 2 (Redmond Developer News)
The features in the SQL Azure October preview, launched on Wednesday, mirror what is expected in the commercial launch of the cloud database service at PDC next month. This is the second CTP of SQL Azure, the SQL Server component of Microsoft's cloud that was radically changed after it was first announced as part of the Azure Services Platform's SQL Services data technologies in October 2008.

Leaked 'Google Chrome OS' Is Just the Browser (PC Magazine)
I've wasted the last couple of hours of my life. It's my fault, really, I admit it. It's just that I got excited and jumped into a project without taking all of the proper precautions. You see, there was a post on TechCrunch today with the title "Want That Early Chrome OS? You Got It." We picked up the story and ran with it. And then I took it upon myself to install the OS on a system in the PCMag Labs--well, I tried to.

Microsoft Sees Cloud As Natural Evolution (Investor's Business Daily)
Bill Laing has seen many changes at Microsoft's Windows server and solutions unit over the past decade. His group builds software to run a range of servers, from machines used in homes to high-end computing. New technologies are transforming the server world. Virtualization software lets users create "virtual" servers on one machine. This lets tech managers increase the programs they can run on any given machine and get more bang for the buck out of each server.

Performance Showdown: Windows 7 vs. Snow Leopard (CNET)
As someone who uses both platforms for work and personal entertainment, I've been wanting to do a performance comparison between Windows 7 and Mac OS X since I first got my hands on the Windows 7 RTM (the final build of the OS) more than two months ago, but decided to wait until I could compare the two apples to apples. (No pun intended.)

8 Things To Think About For Windows 7 (Ethio Planet)
Windows 7 comes at an interesting time. The very notion of the desktop is being challenged by everything from virtual desktops and cloud options to netbooks and iPhones. None of these changes will come to the enterprise overnight, but all will influence the configuration of your end-user environment over the next three years. It’s in this light that we take a look at eight elements of Windows 7 that enterprises need to factor into their plans for rolling out Microsoft’s latest operating system.

What Can Microsoft Do to Increase Search Share? (Seeking Alpha)
Wednesday we published an updated research snapshot on Microsoft, which is going into a decent product cycle on the OS (finally!) which should be followed by a another with Office 10 and possibly even a Windows Mobile that isn’t an embarrassment.

How to include Document Template Files in Content Type Features (UK SharePoint Team)
I recently spent longer than I should have done trying to create what I thought was a fairly simple feature; one that adds a content type to a site collection and also adds a physical file as the document template. This is a common scenario when developing content types to be used in document libraries. The content type bit was easy, I had done that many times before, but adding the document template did take a while to figure out.

Openbinary() odd behaviour (SharePoint developer resources)
Yesterday I was programming a new functionality. I wanted to open a (word) document in code and in code write it to a different location. During this process some data and information would be added to the file. While debugging, everything was working like a charm. But at runtime (without debugging) I got this odd error :The path specified is being used in a substitute.

Preventing the Use of Edit in Datasheet (Elumenotion)
Sometimes you may do some serious customization to a list's forms and build related business logic that precludes the use of the 'Edit in Datasheet' feature that comes with every list. Unfortunately, there isn't an 'Allow Edit in Datasheet' checkbox anywhere on the List Settings page. Fortunately, there are a couple of ways to handle this requirement that are fairly simple.

Does JavaScript/jQuery Enhancements to SharePoint Count as Development? (Made 4 the .NET)
I had a great twitter discussion today with @bsimser & @sympmarc about SharePoint and jQuery which was triggered by an End User SharePoint post by @sympmarc. I pointed them to my “jQuery: The SharePoint band aid” and @bsimser came back with well does jQuery enhancements in SharePoint count as development? So here’s my opinion on this: Are jQuery enhancements development? YES!

WSS on Vista: How we did it (The Bamboo Team Blog)
It has been one and a half year since we release the “hack” to make WSS and MOSS run on Vista. I think it is time to tell the story how we made this happen. I have seen a few bloggers posting different ideas on how it was done. The most popular one seems to be that it is a “registry hack”.
