An Early Look at SharePoint 2010 (InfoWorld)
I avoided Microsoft SharePoint for many years. It wasn't personal; I simply had too many other things to keep up with from Exchange, Office Communications Server, and a host of other releases. However, about a year ago I decided to begin working with SharePoint, and while I wouldn't say I fell in love with it, I loved the features it afforded me as an IT administrator. With it, I could quickly put together a site collection that included a document library, a blog, a wiki, a forum, and so on. Simply put, SharePoint 2007 is an excellent intranet or extranet tool set.

Now that Chrome 3 is out, and Google claims that the JavaScript engine is some 25% faster than Chrome 2, it’s time to consider whether speed has got to the point where more speed is irrelevant. So, rather than crack out the synthetic benchmarks, I took the latest versions of Internet Explorer 8, Opera 10, Safari 4, Firefox 3.5 and Chrome 3 for a quick spin around the internet to see if I could feel a difference in performance between them. The results were quite an eye-opener.

Cloud computing has broken into the mainstream of enterprise IT, but adoption remains fragmented by industry, and acceptance among administrators is far from unanimous. No matter how you define the cloud -- software delivered on a per user/per month basis, or infrastructure leased on a pay-as-you-go basis -- the major stumbling block to mass adoption is, and will for the foreseeable future remain, security.

The White House has released Apps.gov, which Federal CIO Vivek Kundra described on a blog post like this: Apps.gov is an online storefront for federal agencies to quickly browse and purchase cloud-based IT services, for productivity, collaboration, and efficiency. … By consolidating available services, Apps.gov is a one-stop source for cloud services – an innovation that not only can change how IT operates, but also save taxpayer dollars in the process.

Audio File Support in a SharePoint Document Library (using(NaT) {return SharePoint;} UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
If you upload audio files to a regular document library, SharePoint will sends back the file request as MIME Type of “text/html” (maybe text/plain) instead of “audio/wav” (or something similar audio type). For that reason, IE is not smart enough to detect the content is in fact an audio file to launch the appropriate application, perhaps Windows Media player (Google Chrome can actually detect it and play the audio file in-browser).
VMware Authorization Service is not Running – After Windows 7 Upgrade (Brain Litter)
After upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, our VMware Workstation (and VMware Player) installs no longer functioned properly. When we would go to start our virtual machines, we would get "The VMware Authorization Service is not running" and when attempting to start the service, it was set to Automatic but all functionality was grayed out (unavailable to start).
