BPC: Dux Raymond Sy Presents 7 Ways to Leverage SharePoint for PM Success, Launches Career as a Rap Star

Published 08/24 courtesy of Bamboo Solutions Community

Dux Raymond Sy, Bamboo's resident expert on SharePoint Project Management, presented his session on "7 Ways to Leverage SharePoint for PM Success" to kick off the afternoon sessions on the first day of the Best Practices Conference.  Functioning as a companion piece to his 7 Reasons Why SharePoint is a Great PMIS blog of sorts, Dux's well attended session featured the added benefits of his presenting skills, live demos to illustrate his points, and an unexpected treat to conclude the session: Dux's onstage debut at a rap star, performing his new single, "SharePoint is Nice, Nice."

Dux identified the core challenges faced by Project Managers as being:

  • Lack of a standardized process
  • Poor Communications
  • Ineffective project information management
    • Centralized repository
    •  Traceability
    • Access privilege
    • Reporting
  • Inefficient team collaboration

Dux then went on to define a PMIS for the audience, explaining that it's a standardized set of automated PM tools integrated into a system used by the PM team to support generation and maintenance of project artifacts, facilitate communication and feedback, and generally serve as a centralized repository for all project-related data.

SharePoint is a great PMIS, Dux explained, because Project Managers are empowered to create a SharePoint site that serves as a PMIS, access can be limited, project artifacts can be centralized, and communications can be streamlined.

The 7 ways to leverage SharePoint for PM Success are:

  1. Easily create a PMIS
  2. Efficiently store project artifacts
  3. Facilitate better collaboration
  4. Enhance communication
  5. Automate processes
  6. Generate relevant reports
  7. Enable Mobile access

For additional details, straight from the pen of Dux himself, refer to the aforementioned 7 Reasons Why SharePoint is a Great PMIS post.  But before you do that, trust me, you've got to check out Dux's debut performance of "SharePoint is Nice, Nice, Baby" (to the tune of Vanilla Ice's "Ice, Ice, Baby") which just brought the house down here at the Best Practices Conference:
